Quickie Recap
After a confusing start to the season, the Wildcats’ defense stepped up when it mattered most.
For the third straight week NU’s defense came out flat, getting controlled by the Boilers on their first three drives of the game. After falling behind 21-3 the Cats stormed back, scoring 13 points in 91 seconds to finish the first half.
Defense dominated the third quarter, and the only points would come on a 39-yard Stefan Demos field goal. With 12:58 left in the fourth quarter the Cats took advantage of the Boilermakers’ fifth turnover of the game, driving 67 yards down the field to notch the go-ahead touchdown with 2:09 left in the game.
Purdue marched down to the five yard line but couldn’t find the endzone, and Joey Elliot’s pass with three seconds left sailed out of bounds
After Purdue’s third touchdown of the game, NU responded with 24 unanswered points. The Cats held Ralph Bolden to 53 yards on the ground, a season low.
